David O. Whittemore has been a practicing attorney for over 45 years. He now concentrates his practice in the Estate Planning field. This encompances Wills, Trusts, Powers of Attorney, Health Care Proxies and other sophisticated documents that can help clients save taxes and move their assets to the next generation(s).
Born and raised in Framingham, he attended and graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, NH, 1957; Williams College, in Williamstown, MA, 1961; and the University of Virginia Law School, with a Juris Doctor degree, 1964.
He started his legal career with the local law firm, Hargraves, Karb, Wilcox & Galvini. In 1971, he started his own practice.
While solo, he organized a group of investors and built the indoor tennis club, Reservoir Racquet Club, in the Framingham Industrial Park.
In 1984, he joined with another alumnus of Hargraves, Karb, Wilcox & Galvini, David A. Wallace, and they have practiced together for the last 25 years.
During these years, David O. Whittemore has served as president of many local organizations - including the Boy Scouts, Big Brother / Big Sister of South Middlesex, Framingham Civic League, Sudbury River Tennis Club, the Framingham Rotary Club, and the Exeter Alumni Association of New England. In terms of Bar related activities, he was chairman of the South Middlesex Estate Planning Group from the late 1980s through the year 2000. He has served the last six years on the Real Estate Bar Association Legislative Committee, working on updating the homestead laws.
Locally, he was chairman of the first Framingham Charter Commission, which studied possible changes in the form of town government. He has also been active with the Chamber of Commerce in connection with issues dealing with taxation of local businesses.
